A round of applause for Valley Community Meals!
The Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge is thrilled to announce a new, increased grant of £1,200, spread over six months from June. We’re in awe of the selfless work they’re doing for the community, especially at a time when so many people need support. Every Monday evening, their dedicated team of volunteers serves up home-cooked, nutritious 3-course meals at the Good Shepherd Church from 5-7pm (food served until around 6pm). These meals are free for all, but any donations are greatly appreciated.
What sets them apart? Their weekly-changing menu, table service, and the fact that their meals typically include a soup served with buttered bread, a main course loaded with vegetables, and a dessert. And let’s not forget the unlimited refills of tea and coffee! As well as the food, the evenings provide support for lonely and isolated people. It’s a fun and sociable event. “Come for the food, stay for the chat.”
While they don’t routinely cater to specific dietary requirements, they make every effort to be diet-aware. Their meals are homemade or locally sourced, so they know exactly what goes into them. If a guest has a specific dietary requirement or allergy, they do their best to accommodate. Their kitchen is nut-free (excluding donated products), and they make their soup gluten-free to the best of their ability using a commercial, gluten-free stock. Plus, they always offer a vegetarian main course option.
And there’s more! If you let them know in advance, they can supply Calder Food Support food bags.
We are lucky to have this team of kind and generous volunteers, helping to make life a little better in the Calder Valley.

The money for our grants comes mostly from our fund-raising events, such as the Hebden Bridge Duck Race and Vintage Weekend. We are very grateful to everyone who supports them and we look forward to seeing you all beside the river and on the park in 2024!
