Making an application for a grant.
Making an application for a grant:
Please read this guidance before completing the Stage 1 application form:
The Club often prefers (but not exclusively):
Donations for capital contributions (e.g. item/s of equipment). These are more likely to be approved than applications for ongoing running costs.
Donations where young people will benefit and the project will support their development.
Financial help in response to a specific emergency or crisis, such as a natural disaster.
Projects where other efforts are also being made to raise funding.
Local projects within the Club’s catchment area (Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Luddenden and the surrounding villages).
Projects managed elsewhere that benefit people who live within the Club’s catchment area.
Requests from registered charities.
Projects where it is clear how the money will be safeguarded and spent in the way it is intended.
Projects that will be able and willing to provide feedback on the outcomes following a donation.
Demonstration of good governance and clarity of objectives, with clear identification of the ultimate beneficiaries.
The Club rarely or never supports:
Projects that will benefit commercial entities such as shops or businesses.
Projects without a clear plan for financial and / or operational management.
Projects without clearly defined practical benefits.
None of these preferences rule out donations for projects that do not fully meet the criteria. Each request is judged on its merits, in the context of the funds available at the time of the decision. This amount available rises and falls as fundraising events take place and other donations are made. Donations may not match the sum requested and not all requests are approved. Over recent years the size of individual donations has ranged from less than £100 to more than £5,000. Our median donation in recent years has been around £650.
You can expect a response to a Stage 1 application within two weeks. If your application does not meet the criteria for consideration, you will be informed promptly.
The Stage 2 application:
If your Stage 1 form meets the Club’s criteria for consideration you will be invited to complete a more detailed Stage 2 form:
Name of organisation / applicant.
Contact details.
What does the organisation / applicant do and who benefits?
If an organisation, how long has it been in existence, how is it governed, is there a committee and, if so, how are committee members appointed?
If an individual: how will a charitable donation be managed?
Is there a bank account (details)?
Is it a charity (charity number)?
Sources of funds for everyday running?
Website / Facebook page or similar?
What is the project that requires funding?
Who will benefit?
What will the project cost in total (details, estimates etc)?
What contribution is requested?
When will funding be needed?
Other sources of funds, including self-funding so far?
Supplementary evidence (e.g. cost estimates).
The Stage 2 form will be considered in turn by the Club's Grants Committee and Club Council. If approved by both, the proposal will be voted on by the members at the next Club meeting.
An application usually takes 6 to 8 weeks from submission of the stage 2 Grant Application to determination by the Club. In exceptional circumstances, emergency applications can be processed within one or two days.
Please bear in mind that the Club's funds for distribution are limited to the amount raised by our fund-raising activities. Donations may not match the sum requested and not all requests are approved, even if they meet the Club's criteria.
If your application is successful, the Club welcomes:
Acknowledgement of its support, in the press and social media.
The display of a small notice provided by the Club on suitable items of equipment bought with donations from the Club.
