Conservation in Colden Clough!

The Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge is pleased to announce that we have awarded a grant of £503.32 to the Friends of Colden Clough, a local conservation group dedicated to improving biodiversity in the picturesque Colden Clough area.

About Friends of Colden Clough

Formed on October 8, 2024, the Friends of Colden Clough is an unincorporated association with the constitutional aim to "inspire, educate and get involved with others to improve biodiversity in Colden Clough".  This volunteer group, comprising 20+ local residents, focuses on nature conservation and restoration in the Calderdale Council owned woodlands.

Grant Details

The awarded funds will support the following initiatives:

1.    Habitat Improvement:

·         One barn owl nest box

·         Four bat boxes

2.    Volunteer Safety Equipment:

·         Gloves and high-visibility vests

Project Benefits

This nature recovery project will have multiple positive impacts:

·         Wildlife Conservation: Providing nesting habitats for barn owls, bats, and associated species.

·         Community Engagement: Fostering stronger community ties through volunteer activities.

·         Public Health: Promoting positive mental and physical health through outdoor activities.

The project is expected to be completed by September 1, 2025.

Colden Clough is a beautiful valley near Heptonstall, above Hebden Bridge, known for its steep rocky slopes, diverse flora, and wildlife. It's particularly famous for its stunning bluebell displays in spring.
